Children at St. Andrew
Christian Education is an invaluable part of our children’s faith experience. Not only do our children get a sense of belonging, but they learn who and whose they are as God’s love is experienced through caring adults who want to share their faith with others. We encourage parents to set priorities for assuring this education of their children just as they would for math or reading. We seek to integrate Christian teaching with fun and fellowship whether children are in Sunday School, a camp or participating in some other activity.
- Sunday School for Children & Youth
Preschool classes (ages 3-5) provide a traditional Sunday School class experience using Methodist resources and age-appropriate activities. Nursery care is provided during the Sunday school hour for infants up to 2 years.
Through our Live B.I.G. Sunday School curriculum, children (grades K-5) learn not only biblical concepts, but also how to live out their faith daily. Live B.I.G. is based on three foundational truths:
- God is a great BIG God
- God loves us with a great BIG love
- We are part of God’s great BIG world
Classes are provided for all youth (grades 6-12). Click here for our current class offerings. Applying scriptures to real life situations is stressed. Confirmation classes are offered for youth in Grade 6 and up. Click here for the 2009-2010 Sunday School Registration Form (it is a Word doc).
For the protection of our children, youth, and adults that work with them, St. Andrew follows
Safe Sanctuaries guidelines.
Children in Worship
- All children are welcome to worship with us at St. Andrew By-The-Sea. Parents are encouraged to help their children understand what takes place during worship. Holy communion is a marvelous way for all of us to experience the grace of God, including children.
Worship folders are provided for all children to use during worship to help them better understand the service, and to keep our wiggly worshipers engaged in quiet activities. Our Children’s Sermon Time is a special part of our worship experience every Sunday.
Nursery is provided for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers during both worship services. Pagers are provided for parents in the event that they are needed in the nursery.
Children's Church
Children’s Church is provided every Sunday during the 11:15 service. Following the Children’s Sermon, children (grades K-3) are escorted from the sanctuary to Kids’ Kingdom (upper level of the Education Building) for special kid-friendly lessons.
What is Kids' Kingdom? It's a place that looks like a village in Bible times and where children gather for special time together or into separate classes. Kids' Kingdom even includes a movie theatre!
- Recreation
Various sports programs are provided throughout the year and are offered to families of our church and community looking for a nurturing environment for their children to learn the fundamentals of sports and fitness. Upward soccer (prekindergarten to grade 2) is offered in the fall, Upward basketball & cheerleading in late winter/early spring. To find out more about our recreational programs, click here.
