About Jason:
Jason
Leadingham has been hired as St. Andrew's Director
of Youth. According to Mike Rogers, chairman of the search committee, Jason
was selected from a field of approximately 55 resumes applying for the
position. Jason comes to St. Andrew from Haymount United Methodist Church in
Fayetteville, NC.
"I
was surfing the Youth Specialities
website for youth resources and saw the job posting,
and then went to YouTube and saw the video produced by the St. Andrew youth,"
said Jason. "It definitely had an impact.
I felt compelled to send a resume, and God worked it out."
His own passion for
performance and technology has lead him to use video regularly in the youth
services he helped to establish for grades 6-12 at Haymount, where he had
served since 2002. From 2000-2002, he was the full-time Youth and Young
Adult Pastor at Cornerstone Free Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, FL, and
from 1997 - 2000 served as part-time Youth
Director at New Life United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN, and at
Pathways Community Church in Sevierville, TN.
Jason is a graduate of Carson Newman College
in Jefferson, TN, where he earned a B.A. in Religion and Communication Arts
(Drama). He met his wife, Christy, the first day on campus in the same
religion and theatre classes. Christy is currently earning her second
masters degree at the School of Religion at Wake Forest, NC, and hopes to
eventually earn her doctorate. She specializes in Greek, Hebrew, and the role of women
in early Christianity. Jason is also currently working on his Masters of Divinity
through Asbury Theological Seminary. Hailing from a family with many in the
ministry, Jason says he had not wanted to follow suit. But after being
urged to work with a struggling youth group at the age of 19 near his home
in Florida, he literally "heard"
his own message and with teens praying over him, he responded to the
call, and has been doing it ever since.
"The
thing that really stood out for me," explained
Rogers, "is that at Haymount, Jason built a
program from 20 to 125 students with an average attendance of 75 at the
youth worship services. He's very versatile in
not only his experience with youth, but also his background in writing and
performing for the theatre, as a musician, managing sports and with leading
mission trips. He is really a team builder and involves students in
leadership and mentoring."
Jason also has worked with Boy Scout and Girl
Scout Troops, Sunday School classes, youth camps and bible studies,
alternative worship, parent shepherding teams, and special events including
a mission fundraiser that last year raised $33,000 for the youth trip to
Costa Rica where they worked at an orphanage and a facility for
underprivileged disabled. He also develops small groups, and created 12
small groups at Haymount - not including Sunday School.
A seasonal recreation coordinator will report to him.
