Imogene & The Rev.
Neil M. Yongue, Jr.

Staff Pastor/Parish Relations Committee Chair Juanita Graul has announced that the Rev. Neil M. Yongue, Jr., (pronounced "young") has been appointed to serve St. Andrew By-The-Sea.  His first Sunday in the pulpit at St. Andrew was June 17, 2007.
"The SP/PRC committee worked very hard in cooperation with Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor and our District Superintendent Ernest Etheredge to bring St. Andrew a senior pastor who we believe has outstanding qualities and gifts to serve St. Andrew at this time in the life of our congregation.  The SP/PRC committee met Neil and his wife, Imogene, and I know I speak for the entire committee when I say that we are thrilled that Neil will be serving our church family. We are grateful to the Bishop and her cabinet for sending us a pastor with such wonderful talents and great faith to lead us in ministry."
Neil Yongue was born in 1954 in Big Spring, TX, while his father was serving in the Air Force.  When he was 3-years-old, the family relocated to Surfside Beach, SC, where they lived until 1970 when his father took a position in Charleston.  While Neil was in high school, he attended church at Charleston's Midland Park UMC and former St. Andrew Pastor Doug Bowling was his minister and Marlene Bowling was one of his Sunday School teachers.  It was at Midland Park that he also met Imogene, noticing her while the two were participating in a choir.  Neil attended the College of Charleston and graduated from the University of South Carolina (now Coastal Carolina). He received his divinity degree at Lutheran Southern Theological Seminary in Columbia in 1985.  His previous appointments include Folly Beach UMC near Charleston, Union Grove UMC near Anderson, Cokesbury & Hodges outside of Greenwood, Edgefield UMC, Trinity UMC in Blythewood, and for the past eight years, he has been Senior Pastor at St. Paul UMC in Spartanburg, a church with a membership of approximately 1200.
