See our Missions brochure for more on the types of Missions St. Andrew is involved in.

Prayer Quilt Ministry
The Prayer Quilt Ministry is a way to combine the gift of a quilt, with the gift of prayer, for someone in need. It is a meaningful way to reach out to others in prayer. What better way to help someone in need, than with the power of prayer.

The Prayer Quilt Ministry is an interfaith outreach ministry which is currently being offered in Methodist, Lutheran, United Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Catholic and non-denominational churches across the United States, and Australia. St. Andrew is Chapter #68.
The purpose of the Prayer Quilt Ministry is not to make and distribute quilts, but to promote prayer through the use of quilts. The quilt is simply the prayer carrier. A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers, and the ends are left free to be tied with a knot. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is said for someone in special need, who then receives the finished quilt. This is not just a gift of a quilt, it is a gift of love and prayer. It is a statement of faith in God and in His power to comfort, strengthen and heal. As a special gift of love, they can be made for sick babies, for adults and children facing health related problems, or for anyone facing a personal crisis. There are many circumstances when the gift of a Prayer Quilt is appropriate. The only requirement is that the recipient of a Prayer Quilt, or their family, must be prepared and have agreed to receive our gift of prayer. A surprise Prayer Quilt is not appropriate. We can request a Prayer Quilt for ourselves, for a loved one, a friend or for anyone who is facing a difficult time in their life and would like to receive our prayers. They may be a member of our congregation, or they may live many, many miles from Hilton Head Island.

Do you know someone in need, someone who could use the power of our prayers, given to them in the tangible form of a quilt, which can provide them with both physical and spiritual comfort? You can offer them this healing power of prayer simply by calling the church office at 785-4711 and requesting a Prayer Quilt for them.  Quilts may be prayed over and knots tied at Healing & Wholeness services on Wednesdays at 12:15 in the chapel or on Sundays from 8:45 - 12:30 in the chapel.

United Methodist Women
The UMW general meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, usually at noon from September through May, featuring guest speakers and programs on a variety of topics. The May meeting is reserved for the Annual Mother-Daughter-Sister-Friend Banquet. There are also two cluster (circle) groups: The Morning Cluster and The Afternoon Cluster usually meet the third Monday of each month.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship
The High School UMYF is an active and involved group for youth in grades 9-12. The UMYF usually meets weekly at 6pm on Sunday evenings (September through May). Spiritual growth, Christian fellowship and service to others are emphasized through various activities and programs, including retreats and work camps. Participation in both church-wide and ecumenical events is encouraged. (See our Youth Page for current info.)

Middle School UMYF
The Middle School UMYF meets on Sunday evenings at 5pm and has dinner with the High School UMYF at 6pm.  They have their own get-away fellowship and mission trips, and opportunities for spiritual growth.  See the Youth Page for up-coming events
.

Children's Ministry
Children's Ministry activities take place throughout the year. Programs attempt to provide opportunities for children to grow in faith as they are engaged in various experiential activities. Children's Ministry programs also aim to instill a sense of belonging to God's family.

Coffee Servers, Greeters & Ushers
A wonderful way to meet other church members and to take an active role in the church is to volunteer to serve coffee at 10a.m. or to act as a greeter or usher at a worship service.

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who have undergone extensive training and have made a major commitment to the one-on-one care-giving to other members of our congregation or community. The "care receiver" is kept confidential. They may make regular visits to the lonely, visit at the hospital or offer support in a crisis. Referrals for the program should be made by contacting our pastors.

We Care Ministry
St. Andrew By-The Sea's We Care Ministry offers a variety of services to those in need of assistance. Under this ministry, individuals and families receive prayers through the prayer chain and greeting cards.. Both the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services are taped and CDs are available for $2.00 if picked up; $3.00 if mailed. They are available to the ill at no charge.

Boyd Library
The Boyd Library was started by Dorothy "Dot" & Jim Boyd and is constantly updated with new titles. While the library contains many religiously themed books, it also  has many kinds of wonderful books and media available for children and adults. Please visit the library often and take advantage of this ever-growing resource.

Memorial Reception Committee
Following a memorial service at St. Andrew, a Memorial Reception Committee is happy to provide refreshments in the Fellowship Hall so that family members may receive those who have come to mourn the loss of their loved one. There are several Memorial reception teams that take turns organizing the reception and coordinating the cookies, finger sandwiches, etc. that are served. It is always helpful to have more names on the list ready to donate 1-2 doz.

Family Ministry
Throughout the year, St. Andrew plans "Church Family" activities for all ages, including Family Fun Nights, retreats and picnics. "Families" of all sizes and circumstances are invited to participate in these enjoyable activities.

Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund has been established through the diligent work of many in the congregation. Each spring, students who have completed a year of higher education in the field of ministry, church music, nursing or other helping professions, as well as St. Andrew students, are welcome to apply for funding. See the Scholarships page for more information and applications.

Fall Festival
Our annual Fall Festival  is a special event in the life of the church. Now the island's oldest continuing bazaar, the festival offers a glorious array of Christmas crafts, foods, books, toys, odds and olds, collectibles, woodwork and more - made by members of our church family. It is hoped that every person in the congregation will make, bake and donate saleable items. Workers are also needed the day of the festival. Contact chairpersons Dean & Susan Roberts to help.  See the Special Events page for this year's date.
